Hi all

Got a quick question. We have our Bantam Ameraucana's hatch out on May 1st. so they are about 3.5 months old.

We have 2 females and 1 male...I am just wondering...WHEN can I expect them to start laying eggs? I haven't seen any yet.

Thanks
Dan

Hi! How red are the combs on the hens? If they are very red, and the faces too, you should see some eggs soon. You can also check, if you a braver sort, and see how moist the vent is, because I hear that is a good indication of point of lay.

I always go by weeks. The average chicken starts laying from 18-22 weeks old. My chickens all started laying around 20-21, but I have a friend who had her chickens lay sooner. Your chickens are 3 1/2 months old? Thats about 14 weeks, if my math is correct? You still have another month or so to go.
