Bantam Black Rosecomb Pair - WV

Hi there:
I have a question for all you in the know.We have a black rosecomb roo (bantum) that we just ADORE!!! He is SUCH a sweethart and takes great care of our chicks. We call him our babbysitter. We got him from Southern states in the bantum assortment bin. We were told he was a hen, but we love him anyway. We looked at a lot of pics and decided he was a rosecomb. He looks like your guy in comb and wattles, but his cheecks are red not white. Obviously he is not show quality but I wanted to get him some ladies of his breed.

Have I just identified him wrong?exactly the same as yours but red cheeks not white.Sorry to hijack your thread!

Hey Kreugar, I love chatting chicken so don't worry about the hijack!

Rosecombs have huge white lobes. If he doesn't then I would be skeptical it was that breed. Can you post a pic on here and lets give him a look. You are sure he has a rose comb? and not just a small, straight comb? If he doesn't, then I would think he may be old english game bantam.

You can purchase eggs from me or there are a few others who have rosecombs on here; kryptoniteqhs, Rosecomb-ryan. You could also go to a poultry show near you and talk with a breeder. There are always rosecombs at the show!

Good Luck.. and post a pic if you can

Hey
I have a picture of him here, but you can't see his cheeks or whatever you call them, anyway you can see his comb and some what of his waddles. His comb is bumpy and comes to a point at the back of his head, but he dosn't seem as up-right as yours, so don't know if hes not show-quality or hes not a black rosecomb either way we love the little guy and want to get him some ladies his own size the one in the picture was .... well ... a hawks dinner.

It says the content is unavailable.. maybe I need to be your friend. You can click on "uploads" on the blue tab near the top of your screen. Click on "browse" and upload the pic of your roo onto byc. Check the box to reduce image to med. or large and then click "upload" Copy and paste that image link onto your reply to this thread. Then we can all see him!

He's def got rosecomb in him. Does he have muffs (on his face where his lobes are)? looks like a cross of some sort. But that big knot on is head is undeniable!

Nope no muffs at all, and again doesn't seem as upright as yours, so I guess he has a longer back? But he is the SWEETEST little guy.Talks ALL the time and is such a sweethart. He is almost 2 years old. He loves hanging out with the chicks. What might he be crossed with?

I have no idea what he might be crossed with. I do know that my boys are extremely gentle with the chicks as well... even if they are a different variety. I let my cochin broodies freerange with their chicks and they tend to mirror the rosecomb flock.. not really running with them totally but the momma and chicks will run to the roo when he calls them for food. It is very sweet.
