I received a shipment of day old chicks on April 1.

Today one of them laid first egg.

There are true Ameraucanas, and few Lakenverders in this batch.

Egg is a "normal" size (for a Bantam) color medium brown.

I had standard hens starting laying at 4 months, but never seen any eggs from a 3 month old chicken bantam or standard.

Anybody had a similar experience?

My first bantam egg from my young flock of OEGBs came yesterday. I bought the straight run in April. One of my 2 more mature females laid it nicely in the nesting box of my RIRs. I guess she's been observing now for awhile and figure that's where the eggs go. We are most pleased because we were concerned they'd start laying in one of their favorite perchs which would definite bust up their eggs. Now the question is are the roos old enough to actually be doing their job once they have completed their last molt. Anyone know that?

Can't answer your question, but the breed Lekenverder caught my attention -- seems I may have some in the brooder, and was hopin' you could take a closer look at my chicks? Wondered where they stand, in terms of their current development ...

Please >> peck here << if you wouldn't mind helpin' me out ~'-)
