Hi everyone! so I have a little Japanese bantam rooster with my Rhode island reds and Colombian rock x hens and i have been thinking about incubating there eggs in the spring but I'm quite concerned as to what they will look like,Genetics and size? I'm hoping for an outcome of gamey or smaller birds but would be happy with any thing. but not sure if it would even work? thank you so much.

:welcome First he will have to manage to make contact. Not all bantam roosters are able to do so with full sized hens. If he does manage to fertilize the eggs, chicks will mature somewhat smaller than their mothers.

I've seen stories of half-bantam chicks that grew to be in between bantam and big size, and I've seen other stories of half-bantam chicks that grew up just as big as the not-bantam parent.

Plenty of bantam roosters do fine with standard-sized hens, but some bantam roosters do not manage to successfully mate with bigger hens (so you might or might not get chicks.)

I would try it and see what happens-- either the eggs will develop or they will not, but if they do develop they should be just as healthy as any other chicks.

Japanese bantams have the sex linked recessive dwarfism mutation so all of her daughters will be dwarfs(short shanks) males will have regular sized shanks

or if any one has photos from a similar situation and what the out come was that would be amazing. thanks!
