Finally, I got a few pics. of the banties before they slipped away from view. Here's one showing the boy and one of his young female friends.

After last night in the tree they opted for the coop again this evening. Perhaps the roaming cat last evening has something to do with it.

They have a great life, these birds. Up and out at the crack of dawn for breakfast with no thought about a shower, the tv news or the internet. No utility bills to pay. Spend the day harassing the local bugs with a rest in the shade early afternoon. Then off to bed at around 6.00pm depending on the natural light. The only doubt in their minds is whether they can lay enough eggs to avoid sudden death and the cooking pot. Perhaps I won't tell them that the latter is not on our agenda, otherwise they may not lay when the time comes.
