I have a black mottled rooster covering red, buff, mottled and gold laced hens. I've heard the black is dominant so will any good colors come from him with these girls? Which colors would be best with him? I'm not looking to show. I just like unique, pretty girls. I love the Mille/calico colors and the super light blue (almost gray) mottled but I have no idea how to breed for specifics. Hoping to end up with another pretty roo for colors. Which would be best?
Probably. He came out of another random breeding coop. She had all sorts of colors in there. So does that mean he could have buff colored babies? Is that what it means when someone says they're "split to buff"? So confused with all of that.
My avatar is a straight mottled cochin. This rooster below is half mottled cochin and half buff Brahma. He shows some gold leakage around his neck. I don't know genetics in chickens too well, but I would think when crossed with your buff hens you should see buff but you never know what colors are hiding in his background.
