I have a mixed flock w/4 LF ladies, 1 Silkie, and 7 Bantam Cochins (2 roos & 5 girls). I have had a tiny egg almost daily for the last week. The youngest are the splash Cochin girls and they are 17 weeks, the MF Cochins are about a month older, and the big girls about a month older than that.
I am nearly convinced my Isabelle is the one, but she is so young, and I have read they can take up to a year to mature to laying age.

Here are my evidences, you tell me what you all think:

1.) My LF ladies all started laying right around when I first noticed Sammy paying them a romantic sort of attention. I have now noticed Little Joe, our junior roo, mating with Isabelle on a very regular basis. (And why Sammy lets this go on I havent quite figured out yet. I guess he's more interested in the big girls)

2.) She is much more developed (and much redder) in her comb & wattles than the other girls of the same hatching age. (What do you call them? Littermates?)

This is Isabelle:

This is Diva (same age). The third of this group looks similar to this, too:

And this is my weeks worth of eggs!

The mini eggs are near white, almost w/a rosy tint to them. The larger eggs are I believe from 3 other girls: a Light Brahma, a Buff Orpington and a LF Cochin. If the minis are indeed from my little Isabelle, isn't she a super busy girl???!!!

I'm stumped!

PS- What on earth do I do with these tiny eggs? They are about as big around as a quarter and 1 1/2 times as long. I can't imagine how tiny a chick would be if hatched out of an egg that small!

this is very interesting!

i have been waiting for eggs from my bantam cochins since week 18.... my girls are 7 months old and ONE of them started laying last week (29 weeks).... 17 weeks does seem soon, but not impossible!

congrats on your little teenage early bloomer!
