I have a Bantam Cochin hen and some Silkie hen's (and roo's of course), they are almost 6 months old and they haven't started laying yet. All of my other breeds, that are the same age and younger, have been laying for over a month or so. Do Silkies and Bantam Cochin's start laying later that other breeds?

All my cochins started just about 6 months. My silkies, however start about 7-8 months. I have a splash silkie pullet that laid her first egg yesterday and she is about 7 1/2 months old. My cockerel is the same age and he isn't breeding yet. Starting to do the dance, but not breeding yet. I talked to a silkie breeder yesterday and she said she had a cockerel that didn't start breeding until he was a year old. Now that's a slow learner

That's funny about the Silkie roo.. they are all so cute, none of them seem too worried with breeding just yet.
