Hi guys, I REALLY REALLY want a roo, and some banties. Our 4x8 coop is already full with 17 layers, so is building another a smart idea for banties??? It would be outside of the pen that the standards are in, so they would be free ranging.

Where I live free ranging banties is a asking for trouble. If you build a banty coop make one with a covered run attached. I have 3 silkies but I only let them out under supervision, other wise they stay in their covered run. They must like it because we left the door open and tried to get them to come out today but they felt like staying in. I am in the process of have a small silkie coop built right now because they are in one of my breeding pens and I want them out of it! I'll post pics when my builder gets some to me.

Oh yes in a 4X8 coop it's already VERY crowded (how do they do in that small of area?) So I would for sure build another coop for them. Your going to LOVE them though...banty's are so sweet. What kind are you considering?

We are considering adding another 4 feet onto it, but just for the standards. Their run is huge, like 300 feet long, by 50 or so feet wide, and they free range every day. Thewy have been fine, I am thinking of a better roost plan for them. I dont really know whta type of bantam I want, what I do know is one that would be good free ranging, and a good broody. Any ideas??
