I have been looking into getting a few bantam hens for egg laying. They must be very cold hardy too. The last of our flock was killed off by weasels this winter, : ( so I will be starting new with chicks again. In a more secure chicken house! I think I am down to Rhode Island Red or maybe Brama's . Looking for great egg layers that will not go broody or quit laying for long periods. It looks like the Rhode Island reds are the best layers from what I have read so far. What have you found from your experiences. We had a couple of salmon favorelle hens for years too. They did lay pretty good, but would take stretched off of laying too as they got older.
