Bantam Duck Page

I'm just getting into them. Thinking they'll be a lot like the calls and other bantam ducks. Holderreads is publishing a breed bulletin on them, but it isn't available yet.

Do you have pics of them? What are their temperments like? How big are they, will they brood their own chicks?

I just placed my order from holderreads, so I'll let you know when I receive them.

I ordered their Show quality stock, and from what the lady said they are similar to other bantam ducks as far as behavior goes. They can't fly though. Here's a link to the pictures on holderreads.

If your still on here I have a dumb question about Apricote Silvers popping out of Butterscotch as sports, I am guessing that the Silvers carry the blue dilution gene and dusky? So is dusky recessive? With both parents carrying the recessive dusky? I get maybe one out of 50 ducklings...

OK, so are they a showable duck? Will they get along with our pair of calls? It sounds like they might be easier to raise then the calls? My son is nine and he loves his call ducks, but I don' t want him to get to discouraged. When we got our calls we talked to several local breeders who told us they are easy to incubate, but you have to help them hatch. We did that with our first calls (we bought them as eggs) and had pretty good luck, but I am worried it was more just a fluke. I would prefer I think a small duck that will brood its own babies. Advice?

The lady said that they were good broodies. They aren't a recognized breed yet, but as it was explained to me you can show them in most open shows? This is what I was told anyway, so we'll see. I ordered 10, so should have eggs from them next year.

Oh cool! I was just on their site tempting myself

it's hard to find good info on them. The problem I'm having with hatching is the air sac isn't big enough and I wind up having to help them out. I love them to death though, they are great little ducks. Very vocal too - mine always know exactly when to do their duck laugh

What color did you get? My first pair were gray and my second was a white drake masking gray and a gray female. My first pair were show quality and the drake was incredible. He unfortunately died protecting his mate in a dog attack

, which is where the second pair of silkies came into the picture.

I will tell you that neither pair of ducks were friendly when I got them. They still really don't want to be bothered and act like I'm killing them when I pick them up (especially the girls

). BUT, the ducklings that I hatched out were worth every intense moment of incubation. If you spend time with them they will be friendly little ducks.

They make toxic safe markers for the kiddies so if they eat them or their crayons they don't have to use mommy and daddys ins. and cause mommy and daddy to have to sit at a hospital, go to walmart Bob down the school supply ile there are those great colored lick and stick shinny stars they stay on eggs, I put them on easter eggs,
