I have a Frizzle hen that has gone broody. She chose a spot under the coop to lay her eggs so I knew something was different. I candled the eggs and they were fertile!
For her safety I moved her into a makeshift cave in the coop. She has happily sat on her eggs since. Today is day 19 of her sitting on them. I read that Bantam eggs can hatch earlier than normal eggs(as early as day 18 but commonly on day 19). She is a bantam so I checked for pips this morning- none yet. I am trying to not get worried, I just keep saying: let nature do its thing. I live in Denver, CO so I am getting worried that the eggs might be overheating. They are in 90 degree weather and under their mom. Should I risk candling them to see if they are alive, or just wait till day 21 and see what happens.
Is it possible for eggs to overheat under their mother? My mom said that the hen acts as a temperature regulator. Is this true?
