Last August I hatched a mixed hatch and had only one silkie, and she is picked on. Pearl sits in the coop waiting for us to come and put her in juvenile hall, where she is protected and sheltered. She gives a hollar when she's ready to sleep with the big girls. In a few days, I will have some friends for her, and they will always be separated from the big guys. Seranas, Old English, Frizzle and a Polish are the breeds due to be born Friday. My question, how soon should I introduce Pearl to the chics?
Is there a chance she will take on the mother role? She is laying eggs. Thank you in advance. Pearl is my first miniature chicken. Also, are bantam chicks nicer, different from the standard chic?

I love my bantams. They have so much character. They are definitely cuter, being so tiny (to me anyway).

I'd bring Pearl to your brooder, show her the chicks from outside it and see how she reacts. Bring her to see them every day so she gets used to them.

Soon they'll be big enough to play in a pen for awhile and I'd put Pearl outside the pen so they can be close but safe in case she thinks they step out of line. You just never know - she may decide to mother them or she might take awhile to warm up to them. Good luck for a great hatch!

Welcome! Will you have separate digs for your bantam flock? You've got some fragile/ tiny chickens coming!
I've had bantams for a very long time, but mine are Belgian d'Uccles and bantam EEs, both easier than some of yours!

Thank you ever so much. We are so attached to Pearl, and her lovableness. And this all makes perfect sense. I hope you're having great weather in NZ!

Thank you! I didn't know chicken people were so awesome :) Yes, my husband wants to build a tractor just for them, and move them around so they always have fresh grass. We're right on a greenbelt, right on the ocean, so I think this will work with about 4 solar detector lights on it. This is my 2nd hatch, and I've come to the conclusion I just love hatching eggs!

Utoh....Easier than mine - do I have some issues ahead of me?
