Hello Everyone;
I have a three month old bantam frizzle named Runt. (He was the smallest of his hatch). Last night the other half brought him in for some TLC - seems he got himself stuck standing in the goat's watering bowl (the bowl is only about four inches deep - and had two inches of water at the time).
We put him down in the basement, and he will only walk backwards. We found that his crop was also full of what appeared to be air. We put him in a pen, gave him fresh feed and nutri-drench enhanced water.
After many hours of research, it looked to us that the only cause of walking backward constantly would be heavy metal poisining. Out of our research, we drained the crop of air, first by tring to force a burp - finally using a light guage syringe to pierce the crop and allow the air to drain.
So Runt's still in the basement this evening, it's been almost 24 hours. He's eating and drinking, and has not moved any bowls as of yet (beyond the bowels he passed last night out of fear). I'm thinking that it's just a reaction to being stuck in the watering dish for so long - but worry it may be more...

Any ideas?
Chris

it is a type of mareks disease
and generally comes from stress on the chicken
thus the Vit's for his nervous system
as mareks effects the nervous system

the best is to feed him
wet mash probiotic
with vit's

high concentrated amts of Vit E and Vit B complex

here is the amt to give him

WET MASH MEDICATED/VIT'S
3 tbsp of dry crumble feed
4 tbsp of milk any kind
1 tbspoon of yougart
1-1000 mg Vit E cut tip off capsule and sqeeze it into the wet mash
1 Vit B complex crushed and put in the wet mash

mix all good
now put 1 tbsp of applesauce on top so he likes the wet mash

feed this twice a day for two weeks
when cleaned up in 30 minutes clean wet boewl and restock the dry feed
then 3rd week three times
four week on once a week for life

in his water give hIM 1 tbsp of ACV to qt of water
at all times

any questions just email me and I will try and help you out

Well, we've been feeding the nutri-drench based water since last night; and giving him the 20% chick feed ... We'll have to check the vitamin levels on what we're using now - but so far it sounds like we've started off right ....

Thanks for the input.

you will not hurt the chicken with the higher amt of vit's
as the nerveous system is depleated and the Vit's will save him not hurt him

other wise I can't see him getting any better soon
any questions email me
