Basically my bantam has large ish feathers around his feet and i checked them this morning to find that around the tops of his toes is very pink and swollen, im worried about scaly leg but could it be anything else, also how do you treat a bantam for scaly leg, Id really like to sort this out as soon as possible because i think its hurting him

Here you go, its quite hard to get actual photos it was much more noticeable when his feathers were wet

I can't really see anything that looks like mites, but it won't hurt to oil his legs/feet. If there are mites the oil will suffocate them, if it's just irritation then it will help sooth them. I like castor oil as it's very thick, coconut oil is soothing. Dirt may stick to the oil and look yucky, but it won't hurt anything. Looks like some of the feathers still have some sheath on them, so there may be irritation from new feathers coming in. I had one roo that was always having issues with feathers on his feet, irritation and broken blood feathers. Other birds have no issues at all.
