I seriously am in shock at this super mom. We have a tiny Cochin Bantam hen we have been unable to keep contained, and so gave in and let her go rogue around our property. She started laying eggs in our barn and we would see her all over. Then we couldn’t find where she was laying her eggs but she was hanging out in the fenced pasture where I assumed her eggs were getting eaten. After a few weeks of this she disappeared. I thought the worst and thought a hawk had gotten her. My daughter cried. 6 days later she shows up eating food in the barn. I got sneaky and followed her. Turns out she had hidden a nest in a small patch of iris and weeds. She hid herself well as I couldn’t see her even knowing she was there. Anyways turns out another hen had been adding to her stash early in the morning and returning to the flock. By the time I found it and candled the eggs there were 10 growing large eggs and 6 bantam ( after getting rid of 3 not fertile or growing) They were all the same development stage. I currently put 9 large eggs and 1 bantam in an incubator and she’s sitting on the rest. I seriously have no idea how that tiny body incubated that many eggs!!! I think some sort of record!

Update-eggs are on day 10, at least best guess. All of the eggs momma is sitting on, and the ones I popped in the incubator are alive and kicking! What a surprise hatch this could turn into, and right before I leave for vacation
