Since I have not seen many pictures of Langshans- especially bantams- as they grow I have decided to document my chicks as they grow. These are Blue/Black/Splash from a breeding pair of blues. The pullet won reserve of breed at the most recent show and the cockerel didn't win any major awards but got many good comments. They should hatch at the end of the week!
The parents...

...and possibly a mixed rooster that I thought was a hen until he crowed.

Edit to add: The eggs are on day 19 now.

Early day 21- I woke up to one chick hatched! It pipped around 4:00 yesterday but didn’t make any more progress until I went to bed. Also, one more externally pipped! Pictures to come.

So apparently the first chick hatching woke my sister up around 2:00 a.m. I just got to watch the second chick hatch and a third has pipped.

I would post the video of the second chick hatching but my phone won’t let me. I will post more pictures later.

Ok, so we ended up with three chicks: Lucy/Luke, Burt/Bertha, and Olive/Oliver. Lucy/Luke hatched around 2:00 yesterday morning, Burt/Bertha hatched at 10:30 a.m. yesterday, and Olive(r) hatched sometime last night or very early this morning because it was dry when I woke up.

Apparently, bantam Langshans grow out just like large fowl Langshans- the roos feather out much, much slower than the hens. So, they can be feather sexed. I can safely call them Lucy, Bert, and Olive.
