I saw some at the state fair last year and they are adorable! How do they do with semi-confinement (free range part of day). How is their egg laying? Anything to say good or bad?

I have a trio of bantam white leghorns. IMHO the hens are attractive little girls, and the roo is quite handsome. Mine are not at all crazy/flighty as many standard leghorns are supposed to be, and they're easy to handle, but then again mine were show bred. They are NOT cuddly/friendly birds, but that's okay with me.

They seem to lay well -- I haven't kept count of the eggs, and I've got other bantams, so I can't say for sure. The eggs are much smaller than my bantam cochin or bantam araucana eggs, but about the same as my bantam rocks and D'Uccles.

The roo's large comb is very susceptible to frostbite, even in relatively warm Tennessee. Oh, he's also roo aggressive (gamey), so right now I have to keep mine in a separate cage. All of my birds are in pens/enclosures, and the leghorns seem to be doing very well with the confinement.

I wouldn't mind having some bantam light brown leghorns. I saw some at a show recently, and they were nice looking. Also, I'm ordering some standard exchequer leghorns in the spring.....we'll see how they compare!

Thanks for replying! I can only have hens, so I'm safe there. I like the browns too, and with our constant rain in the NW, it might be better that I don't get whites. My poor white bantam cochin looks like she took a mud bath!
