Hello peoples,

So after our last disaster and total hatch failure we bought a new incubator and hygrometer and thermometer.

Temps and humidity have been consistent. Last candled from the fat end at day 14 and 9 of the 12 bantam leghorn eggs were good., 1 had a funny shaped aircell so we kept it and I'm going to put it in an egg carton just incase. Two hadn't progressed so we ditched them.

So my question of the day is do I lock them down today on day 17 or tomorrow on day 18.

I have been so good at not meddling this time and don't want to mess it up.

Thank you all

Hi there hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

You can lock down as early as day 16 without harmful effect IF needed. But if there is no reason to lock down early... then day 18 is good. Bantams do NOT hatch earlier than large fowl under correct conditions in *most* instances, UNLESS it's a specific line thing.

Happy hatching! :fl:jumpy:jumpy

So how did it go with your hatch? :)

We are half way through day 21, one pipped a huge hole early on day 20 but didn't zip and died. We tried to help it last night but to late, it was perfectly formed, yolk etc all absorbed but just stuck. I have another one pipped late last night and one that internally pipped early yesterday but hasn't externally pipped so we put a tiny air hole in the top of the shell so it doesn't suffocate, it's still rocking and chirping away.

I have increased the humidity a bit in case that is the issue. Probably to late to help now but.....

Feeling mega disheartened at the moment and not expecting any success. No idea what has gone wrong, my only guess is the hatching humidity was (is) to low.
