We are building a insulated addition onto our daughters coop. She has 13 bantams, the new coop is 8 x8. What is the best type of perch especially for cold Wisconsin winters. My husband is thinking 2x4's flat to keep feet from freezing? Any ideas, as long as we are starting new he can build anything. Also, is the tier method best for the perches? Thanks

I've got an 8ft by 8ft chicken house. For roosts, I have two 8ft 2x2s. They work well for my cochin bantams. However, our winters in missouri arent quite as harsh as yours. Also, cochins are winter hardy - they are profusely feathered and feather-footed. Nonetheless, I think 2x2s would work fine for your bantams. If the the house is insulated they shoould be fine. Their body heat will keep them warm. The biggest thing is making sure the coop is dry and draft free during the winter.
