So I went to pick up some new pullets the other day. They had an adorable, friendly, and surprisingly quiet bantam Easter Egger rooster that I fell in love with. I want to cross him with my Welsummer girls, but I'm afraid that he won't be able to "do his duties" hehe. What are the possibilities that my girls will even get fertilized?

I used to have a rooster that was sweet and calm we never had any problems with him. He was just how you described your new rooster. He did " his duties" well, nearly every egg was fertilized. It may take him some time but he will get the job done that's what roosters do.

. Good luck!!!

I have a bantam Phoenix rooster who is just smitten with my big fat cornish x hen,he attempts to mate but only has success mating her back. The hen is probably about 12 lbs and he is roughly a pound if that, first time I saw it I couldn't stop laughing. I also told DH he gets to bathe Drumstick (the hen) because Gene took care of business on her back.

It is funny because Drumstick submits to him and everything then he hops on and goes to town on her back. We put him in with the Cornish X's because I knew he wouldn't be able to reach his "target" and we needed a spot for him while his mansion is being built.

i have 3 or 4 bantam standard crosses.... im still puzzled lol... they are so far bantam size if not slightly larger.... showing good meat bird characteristics

oh that made me laugh! My bantam guy is so funny watching him attempt to mate a cornish rock x if she wanted to she could walk around with him on her back he is tiny compared to her like a flea on an elephant. He will only be in there for 2 more weeks then he gets to move into Nugget Towers.I would be shocked if he was successful and oh wow what an ugly chicken that would be cornish x mixed with a phoenix.

ETA gorgeous chickens in the picture by the way.

Thanks for all the help! Those birds are beautiful! Still deciding what to do. I prefer standard hens, but not standard roosters. I have tried 5 different times and they were all nasty buggers. How do these standard/bantam hens lay?
