Hi All!

We are trying to order bantams but a lot of companies only sell straight run. Does anyone have experience with bantam roo’s? We only have had hens and I’ve read, one rooster is enough otherwise you will have problems.

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

Like all cockerels, it's about individual behaviors, which relate to both genetics and management.
I've had bantam Easter Eggers, Cochins, Brahmas, and Belgian d'Uccles, and almost all have been nice boys. There have been a very few jerks over the years, but mostly they have been fine.
You are very likely to get cockerels with straight run chicks!!!
Right now we have five cockerels out of six bantam EEs from Cackle this April, all lovely, and only one (maybe two) will be staying. Want one?!
It might be possible to sell some, and they are edible, but small, and that's an option too. Plan ahead for possible cockerels, so you've mentally prepared, and have space and extra places for the birds who don't fit with your flock.

Thank you Mary! We have a lot of space for our chickens. We have only one bantam as one passed away this morning so we are wanting to get some more. We are going to get females but they are way more expensive and can’t buy 8 females so I was going to take a Risk on 3 straight run. I’ll see if anyone else chimes in with similar experience. Thank you!
