I am wanting to introduce my three grandsons to the joy of raising chickens. They live on my property abut 300' away, so I will be helping and supervising daily. I ordered about $6 worth of parts off ebay yestetday and we are going to make their own incubator. I was planning to order bantam eggs off ebay and help them hatch them. I have never had bantams, always get big chickens. What are some sugested breeds that have a good temperament and will be good with the kids. They are 8, 11 & 13.
I call them my Grand-Monsters :lau

There are many good bantam breeds, but the most docile and kid friendly in my experience would be the Silkie, the D'Uccle, and bantam Cochin. You can look them up in Reviews under Chicken breeds for pictures and info!

Thanks, I did my research and I think the Silkies will be the best choice. They seem to be very popular and there are quite a few available on eBay and they are not very expensive. :yesss:

If the kids are prone to getting super attached a Ko Shamo, although pricey and only available through breeders, would be incredibly friendly, especially the males, very trustworthy, and they would be super long lived compared to some of the others.

Seramas, but only IF you are going to supervise the kids every second! Seramas are one of, if not the SWEETEST chickens available. But I've seen too many parents not watching their kids, who like to pull chickens around by the legs, pick them up roughly, etc. Seramas are so sweet that they would put up with it, but shouldn't have to. I have a Serama frizzle, and she's my favorite bantam by far.
