Am I crazy for thinking a gray Japanese bantam can brood with 14 red cornishXes? The gray is 3 weeks old and about 1/3 smaller than the 10 day old cornish. During the first introduction the meaties picked on the bantam. The 2nd visit the bantam was the bully and had to be separated because she wouldn't settle down. Yesterday was the 3rd visit and after an hour all seemed ok so they spent the night together.

SimplyForties: I originally had 2 of the banties. The smaller one loved the larger one to death which makes me think. Isn't it normal behavior for true bantams, ensuring that the breed stays small?

The cornishXes will be double her size in a few days and that makes me worry but for now they are all mingling fine together.

This looks like the larger one that died back on the 18th. The survivor we named Connie is almost all black. I will get a pic of her for you by tomorrow, sorry for the delay. I'm lazy about downloading pix.

I'm so glad you asked this because I have a chick in with my meaties and they are about twice his size now. I was wondering if I needed to move him to a separate brooder or not. He is our mystery packing peanut, so I'm not sure what kind he is.

I'm just keeping a close eye on them to make sure they all play nice. There's a few reasons I've got them together. Connie was SO very lonely being all by herself. I didn't want the expense of 2 heat lamps and it's just all around easier having only one brooder to tend. When the Red CornishXes have all been consumed then Connie will have to integrate with my 11 Buff Orp's.

Yep, I did the same thing because I thought he'd be lonely on his own. I'm pretty sure ours is roo, since he was a freebie. And from day one he has been feisty and seems to stand up to the meaties just fine. We've called him The Colonel and plan on keeping him for a pet.

I took these on Memorial Day. I need to get some more because he is really starting to feather out. Any ideas on the breed? From the chick pics, I was told either a Phoenix or OEGB. What do you think?
