We have 17 standard size hens, 1 bantam hen and 2 bantam roosters. We just got 4 week old black copper maran that we are pretty sure is a rooster. My question is will be be able to keep him with our other chickens which is where the bantam hen lives, without him hurting her? Will he most likely try to mate the bigger hens and not mess with her?

Marans tend to be heavy and slow...

If the bantam is good at flying and quick (so not a silkie) there shouldn't be a problem.

With a mixed flock though, I feel much better having 2 feeders and 2 waterers to make sure no one is bullied away from the feed and water.

Once when I had a couple of bantams with a large flock of standards, I put a feeding station up high to make sure the bantams, all good fliers, were eating enough.

My mixed rooster unfortunately breeds with the Japanese bantams I have with him when he can catch them. I'm sure it's not preferred by the hens, but he hadn't hurt them yet, so....

Thank you! She is a d'uccle bantam and is pretty quick.
