Ok, so long story short, I went in to pick up the 3 speckled sussex I ordered, and came home with 5 chicks(we all know how chicken math works). Two of which are bantams. My guess is Cochin and black australorp. But I don't even know if there is such a thing as a BA bantam?!? Or if there are different varieties of cochin? Or maybe this baby isn't cochin at all and there are other breeds with feathered feet?!! So, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking the black one might be a roo and the other a pullet, going only by wing feather growth. But it doesn't matter either way. I am just guessing now and seeing how they grow to determine if I was right or not. Thanks for all the help friends!!! [IMG]

That baby with gold on it looks like it has a beard. Does it? If so I'm guessing d'uccle.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the black chick might be? I was initially thinking BA bantam, but I don't remember my standard BA's having that much gray on them and so little pale yellow/white? Might this little chick be something other than a BA bantam? Ideas and suggestions very much welcomed!!! Thanks!! [IMG]

It may be a Barred Rock bantam. But, I don't see a white spot on its head. I looked on Ideal's website and here are the possibilities that look like the chick:

    White Faced Black Spanish Bantam:

    Black Dutch:

    Black OE:

    Black Japanese:??

I guess I should call the store and ask them where they got their bantams from. That might help, eh? I was thinking white faced spanish too - but those show white on their wings and this little ones wings are coming in black. But after researching more, I am pretty sure it is not a BA bantam. I will keep looking. Thanks for all the help!!! I will try to get more pictures of the chicks too. The feather footed one is def. a d'Uccle - Mille Fleur. But I have been baffled by this little black one. Esp. since it is not completely black all over. Just the head, back, and wings. The rest of the body ranges from black to gray, with pale yellow/white under the chin(as pictured) and under the tail area/onto stomach. Odd. I will let you know if I find out for sure what it is!
