Bantams

We are new to chickens and we have 2 Black tailed Buff Japanese, 2 White (one has a black tail the other doesnt) 3 Buff Orps, and a SS Hamburg. All but the two Buff Bantams are to young to lay. We have had the Bantams for about a week and have gotten 4 eggs (one soft) 3 normal. How often do they lay? We are happy with "production" but my 8 yr old asked when they lay and I dont know! lol Also I thought that most hens lay at night but these lay in the middle of the day!?

Most of the hens i know lay in the middle of the day, the rest early morning. Kinda depends on individuals like a lot of things.

Most hens lay daily, but some of the bantams, and breeds that are known for not being layers.. About every other day. Fat, sickness, and just generally not healthy/lighting and a lot of other things can cause them not to lay as well.. Or not often. I think i heard laying a egg is a 18 hour process.. Or it takes that long to make a new one?​
