Hi All, very new to all this, just got our first chicken(3 Bantams) two weeks ago. They are four weeks old now and my husband thinks we might have two roosters and one hen

. Is there any way to tell this early in or will we just have to wait and see? Any advice much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

You could try posting pictures of the birds in question in the What Breed or Gender section - clear shots of the combs work best. What kind of bantams do you have?

and I once saw a show and they determined if the chicks were male or female by their wings, you might want to look into that.

Thanks, and hi from Dublin, Ireland. Not sure of the type of Bantam. My husband "surprised" me with them two weeks ago. Want to get as much information as possible to make sure we are caring for them properly, will take your advice and post some pics later!

I have bantams. I was told I have whats called bb reds. When I got mine i noticed one of mine started having more of a red patch at his chin and the lady said she thought that was the only boy bc non of the others had such a large patch. But since I'm new to the chicken world i don't really know. My chickens are now 8 weeks old and that one is still the only one that has the largest red patch on top of his head and on the bottom so i'm pretty sure it's a rooster. the rest just have a short small red patch. good luck.
