I have a Brandon hen sitting on her eggs she was in her coop but the other chickens were picking on her her comb and trying to bust her eggs. Plus she was hot. She refuses to leave her eggs i did manage to move her inside in a bin with bedding she's sitting on that and still won't move. I have food and water in there but she doesn't seem interested in the food or water and she seems to be pooping in her nest. Is this normal? Not to eat and never leave the nest? What should i watch for? Do i need to worry about sores? Cleaning the nest etc? Worried about her and her 3 eggs. Thanks.

This is an older pic where she rejected an egg we took it out. All 4 eggs was in her nesting box so i grabbed both big eggs and her smaller eggs. She's sitting on two Bantom eggs and a big one.

Broody hens leave the nest generally only once a day, so you will probably miss it. They don't eat or drink much and generally poop once a day too. All that is normal. After her eggs hatch she will generally leave the nest 2 days after the first one hatches. You can clean the area out than.

Thank you for your response. So for 21 days the nest will stink i take it?
This is def my 1st time. Had s lot of eggs come spring waited a lil over 21 days and nothing none of the hens wanted to sit i guess. She seems determined so i left her until i discovered the other hens pecking at her her eggs and eyes her comb looked bad she's doing better but boy her hardly moving worries me.

Generally if the nest stinks it is from a rotten egg. That I may clean out. Do you know if the eggs are developing? I would sniff the eggs to see if you can find the stinky one and carefully remove it.

How many days is she on? Hopefully all eggs were set on the same day? So they all hatch together?

Unfortunately bantams get picked on often when mixed with bigger breeds, especially when setting so it's good you separated her out.

Im not sure if they are a few days apart or not. She's been sitting a lil over a wk.
True. She's one of our bigger bantoms. Trying to sell the smaller ones and find new homes for them. She normally does pretty good until this.

Nothing should smell a week into setting, unless as you said she's pooping in the nest. You may need to remove her once a day and try to clean up the poop, or every few days.
