Bare back-Hen Capes-Horny Rooster!

My rooster has tore up the backs of my beautiful hens. I made an experimental hen cape for one and she LOVES it!! It's so cute, so the rest of them just got theirs on. . .in the wee hours of the night.

I am wondering if anyone knows how long to keep these things on? Do they foster bugs? Should I change them out like regular laundry? I will make a whole collection! haha easy stuff, and fun.

I see the one preening her new cloak and being fantastic! I really think she loves it. I live in NC and it gets pretty hot and humid. I am just looking for advice if there are any down sides to these as far as health!

Their back werent bloody, just dry bare skin and becoming ugly. . . 4 hens to one rooster.

I leave my saddles on year-round. The common poultry lice do seem to enjoy laying their eggs on the undersides of the saddles, so be sure to check the birds for parasites regularly and treat the back/cushion area well when dusting.

They are loving them this morning- Or I am. I think I am going to make a few capes per hen and follow your advice as far as dusting and what not. There might be rooster free days every once in a while to air them out!!
