Bare back hens and how to help in the cold

I was wondering if I could rub Vaseline, olive oil, or something else on my bare-back hens. Wearing a saddle is not an option. I'm worried about their skin being exposed to the cold and how to treat the skin with something to keep it from freezing or drying out and cracking

What's causing the bare back problem? Generally addressing the cause will result in feather regrowth.

Molting and mating. I took the rooster out of the hen pen and I've been feeding feather fixer along with her other foods. But until the feathers get grown back, what do I put on her bare skin?
