So My one year old barred Rock has a naked belly...her skin seems kinda dry but not irritated other than where her breast bone must rub on her roost. I don't think she's lost weight, but I've not tracked weight either. But she feels about the same as my other chickens comparable in size to her...I've looked her over and I don't see signs of bugs...I'm at a loss. It's been a couple weeks since I first noticed the loss of feathers and wondered if maybe she was going broody, but her laying habits havnt changed and she's not spending extra time in the nesting boxes.
Anyone have any ideas??

That looks like a broody tummy to me! Is she making the broody sounds? (clucking non stop as she walks around?)

Honestly I'm not sure, I'll have to go out and listen. She's always been the most talkative of my bunch, so I havnt noticed if she's been more talkative...
I was kinda hoping she was going broody, I think it would be super fun to hatch some eggs! I know each hen is a little different but, how long could it take before she commits if that is what's going on? She would be my first broody experience, so I'm a total newb to all things broody, lol.

You could try leaving golf balls in the nestbox (if you remove the eggs promptly) so she has something to sit on? (I did this to stop egg eating and several ended up broody-turned out it was a barn cat eating them) Also, when you feed treats does she cluck to call everyone over? (sort of like the rooster does) as that is usually a sign with some of mine that they are going broody. Good luck!

I have fake eggs in the nesting boxes already, and I tried to watch for a while today to see if she was more chatty or calling to come get treats, but she seems to be acting normal to me...but it is raining, lol. So I didn't spend a ton of time out there today and they are all annoyed at the rain, grumbling under their breath at being wet, lol.
