Bare butts... what is going on? (PICS)

I have a couple that are like that too the Vet told me it could have been from stress from the winter and that they are pulling there feathers out. Also it can be bordem from the same food and she suggested I add more protein. hope that helps.

I'm having the same issue, 5 of my 6 chickens have bare butts and they have started pecking each other there. Now one of them is missing feathers on her back, I checked and see no bugs.. I'm at totally loss.

Its feather pecking. Mine have been doing this for quite sometime now. I've tried everything in the book to stop it. I have boxes full of gimmicks with no avail. I don't have enough ink in my computer to list everything I've done. I figure as long as they don't kill each other & lay eggs its all good. I don't understand it. Its a chicken thing. Don't even mention protein because that's not it. Mine free range so its not boredom. Maybe they think its sexy. LOL Let me know if you find the cure.

Thanks for the replys. I have never dusted for mites. I just bought some Sevin but hadn't had a chance yet to work with them to dust them. If it is not mites I would rather not do it.

I suggest a chicken massage......rub their backs, under their wings, don't forget their little feet. Do it on a calm day, when the sun is out, put on some cool music and tell your ladies that you want them to stop being so stressed and leave their feathers alone.....
