Bare Chicken Butts

That's my suspicion as well. My girls are very healthy otherwise and show no other signs f any mites or lice in any other places on their bodies. Thanks for your input.
My Golden Comets have the same issue. All healthy, eating, laying but bare vents.

My hens will spend some amount of time sitting on the egg, but I don't know exactly how long they did it. I still am trying to figure out why their butts were like that. They looked fine otherwise and acted healthy, ate well, etc. I am still trying figure out what was going on. I dusted them with DE powder for mites, but that didn't seem to make much of a difference.
Same thing here. They seem fine but bare vents

Two of my buffs had the same issue. I checked them over and never saw a cause. One of their bare bottoms turned red like a sunburn. I coated it and just made a mess of the feathers around it. Eventually, they molted and now their butts are feathered again.

If you are talking about feathers around the vent, a bird doesn't pluck those. They will pluck breast feathers but only if they are broody. Have your birds been sitting on eggs this summer?
She might have lice. They like it around the vent and when they tickle, she pecks at them, taking feathers out. May be.

Okay. I have been dealing with bare butts for a while now. First it was one then two now three. I know it is not mites. I went to TSW and a chicken savvy employee who just happen to be at that store for something else suggested the pick no more. It is an alternative to the blue kote all natural no egg withholding. Smells nice but the other chickens do not like it. I put it on them every night when they perch. I have had some success but those hairy pin feathers are just too irresistable lol. Anyway I have read that it is wise to assume that the ones that have all their butt fluff are usually the ones pecking butt I have spent a good amount of time watching and I observed my one bare buff orpington picking the butt of the other bare buff while dust bathing. I thought one of the buffs who is the largest and exibits lead behavoir was the boss but maybe I am off on that. Unfortunately my coop camera got zapped by a storm (long story) so I do not have cams back inside yet. Soooo there is probably some picking going on there for sure. Anyway wanted to share this product with everyone oh and to top it off my bigger buff is now being broody so I have to segregate her until she stops and goes back to hanging with the flock. I also brought her in at night the last 3 nights. Had to do it like 3 times now in the last month. I am not raising chicks and no rooster. We have decided we are going to pick a chicken each week and bring them inside for a "spa day". Check nails, clean up, give treats and just a general overall special attention check. Thanks for listening and maybe someone will benefit from this. In our second year of raising chickens. Much love to all of you. Mary
