I have a chicken with a partial bare butt and we've had really cold temps and she is red as can be, almost chapped looking, very dry. Can I put vaseline on it to help protect it?

I am no expert, but I think the vaseline would be a good idea.

Vaseline is a bit gooey. You might use some bagbalm or other hand type lotion that will soak in. If you get the feathers all gooey and greasy, this will make her and others pick at it. So be very careful to only get the effected area.

If she continues to pick at this area, you might try some Rooster Booster No Pic lotion on it. This will help soothe it and hopefully get her to stop picking at this area.
