I woke up this morning and found one if our chicks, nugget ( named by my daughter) wind looked matted. Once I separated her and got a better look it looks like her skin is completely bare under her left wing and some of the fur is matted down. Any suggestions to what this is and how to fix it? Do I keep her separate from the other 5 chicks?

Aww poor baby. I would say she needs to be separated. It could very well that the other chicks saw pink and pecked her to cause this? But sense she has been brought to bleeding I would separate, and try to clean and get some neosporin on the wound.(Make sure to read the ingredients on the ointment, that it doesnt have anything ending with "cane" in it. Cause that can be harmful to the chick.) But absolutely separate her and watch to see if she is pecking at that area. I would look through her down to be sure she has no mites or lice that she may have been scratching or pecking at and got carried away? To rule them out as well.

Thanks. Is there any special stuff to clean it with ? Should I Use sterile water? This is our first time with chicks.

Very simple, soak a warm washcloth, then try to soak the dry blood off. (Very gently.) Then apply some Neosporin (Just a dab will do ya.). I was going to add, you might share this same post in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures forum on here : https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

They may have even more advice or thoughts as to the cause. GL! Let us know how she fairs!
