I have a chicken with a bare spot - meaning no feathers. i first thought she was just being "used" to much by the rooster, but now she has no feathers and she quit laying all together. she's buff orpington. someone once told me that was a sign of mites but i see nothing crawling on her. is there something i should know? any suggestions. She is fine otherwise -as are everyone else in the coop (and the other hens are laying - sparingly - but still laying).

If only on her back, or back of the head-- it's from being pecked...
if it is spreading-- and not laying, she's molting!

it's kind of like on her wings sorty of. and she's not being pecked. that's for sure. i wondered when they would molt. you see bare skin when they molt?

The roos can wear off the feathers on the hen's wings. But she could be molting also.
