"Barn" style coop and roundpen turned chicken yard.

Absolutely wonderful!!!!

Now, what are you going to cover it with....and how? We have hawks everywhere here.....we have dispatched 6 racoons as of yesterday just this spring and early summer...plus a opossum.

In our big run my DH built a thing in the middle with 2x4s that was taller than the fence and we put wire on it and connected to the top of the fence.

I love the entire setup.......

Thanks everyone! I'm lucky I found the folks to make it for me. They did a nice job. My husband and I modified it just a tad (still a work in progress).

As far as covering the entire roundpen, I don't think that's an option at this point. Raccoons tend to stay away for the most part, probably because of the dogs

. We have 16 hens to house in the "barn".

We have added a couple more roosts inside since this pic was taken.

We were using the round pen for our dogs, and had some kennels built for them. The horses don't use it any longer so I took it upon myself to put it to good use...

We got the 8ft tall chainlink fence from our work. They put up new fence and gave us the old. Worked out perfect!!!! Check with a local fence company and see if they are doing any replacement fencing and see if you can get the old fence provided it is good shape!

The folks that built the "barn" build dog houses to match! If you know anybody looking in Oklahoma or Texas for a new chicken house, these folks are great!

Hopefully you keep them inside at night? That will help w/ the raccoons.

The biggest risk, though, is hawks. I would at least put in some posts (taller than your round pen) and drape some netting over the top to protect them from hawks. Out in the open like that they are really sitting ducks, as it were.

Yes, I keep them locked in at night.

I wish I had the funds to be able to do all the work that needs to be done (cover for the roundpen). Unfortunatley I do not. Like I said, it's a work in progress. At the moment with 115* heat index weather I am just trying to keep them from being killed by the heat. Thanks for the input, I will get it done when I can.
