OK, with the death of Chicken Hawk, I'm going crazy with the wormer, powder, etc etc and checking everyone with a fine tooth comb.
I've noticed something really strange on Pot Pie (my other favorite...). On her neck feathers, up close to her beak, in a place where there is no way she could preen, are these barnacle looking white things. They are on the feathers and not actually a part of the feathers. They are hard to get off. They are not soft, they don't pop, and they almost look like eggs. I'm not able to scrape them off with my fingers. I had to pluck a feather so I could see it up close (without having a chicken try to peck my eye and teeth or eat my wedding band

).
Again, I'm SO paranoid right now that it could be food stuck on her chin, but I just want to make sure. I know they are not mite eggs but could they be some other sort of parasite egg? Or am I crazy? I would take a picture but they are so small that I'm not sure it would come out.
Other than that, she is happy and healthy. I checked her feathers and found four mites in a five minute period (hence the powder, wormer, etc). Don't know if that would make a difference or not.

I put .25cc of liquid pour on cattle wormer on each bird and sprinkled their run, nests, and coop with poultry mite powder. I don't know what it's called... I just picked it up at the feed store.
Here is a picture... Not a very good one but hopefully somebody will know what this is.

Yeah, I would say thoes are feather lice eggs. I bought a pair of chicks once and upon inspection, found their feathers matted with that stuff! Needless to say, I couldn't let the broody adopt them and had to treat them first. I used this poultry dust stuff from the feed store. Don't know the name.

I just can't catch a break this weekend, can I?!?!
This is it right here... Poultry lice.

And $100 says it's from the wild birds and/or the mice that we've been having problems with. Well, I gave everyone a treatment for lice/worms/mites, etc today, so the little &^$@* eggs should be dead and gone soon....
I'll keep an eye on them and keep everyone updated.

PS In my first post I said I saw four mites on her, but I'm betting now that they aren't mites at all. They very likely are poultry fleas (which I'm now learning look different than the fleas I'm used to seeing).

thanks mate...i will get some. DO i need to treat the 5 new ducks we got yesterday? I have them quarantined in their own coop and run away from the chickens at the moment...they are white crested and rouens and are between 4 and 8 weeks old ( the lady couldnt remember how old they were when she got em!)
