I have 8 month old hens that don't lay or eat their own eggs I'm not sure which. They have access to pellets always and are free range during day and a small tin of wheat when locked up at night. Does anyone have some ideas about this please.

Welcome to BYC!

They could be not laying or eating the eggs. If they are free ranging, they maybe laying in some hidden nest out in the field. Predators could be also eating the eggs. So you need to determine which one of these is going on and why. Here is a good thread you might read thru on why aren't my hens laying...

Good luck in figuring this out and if you have more questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TwoCrows gave you a great link to help figure out what is going on with your girls. You might want to try locking them in their coop for a few days to see if they are laying and might be hiding eggs, and checking for eggs really often in case they or something else is eating the eggs (if you can put a video or camera would help), usually if chickens are eating eggs you will find shells etc and they will make a mess, they are not neat eaters. If that is what is going on, here is a nice article on breaking egg eaters https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/six-tips-on-breaking-your-egg-eater
