Hi! I am a new chicken Mom and have six Barnevelder chicks that are 1 week old. I just noticed that two of them had liquid poop. All of the chicks are very active, eating, drinking and playing. I just want to make sure everything is as it should be. I give them the Purina medicated chick starter and ACV water for pasty butt (which has since cleared up) Three days ago I gave them a clump of dirt from the yard. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Emily

Thank you for your responses! Yesterday Izzy worsened becoming very lethargic, not eating/drinking, and wouldn't open his/her eyes. We went to an avian certified vet for an emergency appointment. The fecal test was negative for parasites, coccidiosis, ect. The vet said that everything came back normal, but he said "The medicated feed is working, so that leads me to be believe this is bacterial and the fecal test shows that." We were sent home on Septra twice per day. I gave a concentrated dose of Nutri Drench via syringe, as well as much water as he/she would take. I gave her/him his first dose at 4 pm yesterday and then again at 4 am this morning. I spent all night checking on him/her, setting my alarm every 30 min to make sure I didn't miss anything (sorry...first time chicken Mom). I woke up about two hours ago to find Izzy on top of the mini brooder trying to get on my bed. I was fully prepared to wake up this morning and find that Izzy had passed away. Now he/she is alert, active, and eating/drinking on their own...so obviously a huge improvement. The Septra is to be given over 14 days, so hopefully we will continue to see improvement.
