Thank you! She's really not laying, although I know that Barnevelders often aren't prolific layers so I'm not disappointed about that. I have 2 barred rocks that lay every day, and sometimes double yolk eggs, so we're good for eggs. As I mentioned, we have a lot of native birds that are quite aggressive at the moment, especially the magpies that keep flying at the chickens when they're free ranging. So perhaps she's being the protective rooster in this coop. I just really hope the neighbours don't complainShe appears to be sexually mature, so she's not too young to be crowing. Most hens that take the responsibility of being the flock's makeshift rooster do not lay eggs, so don't be too bummed out if she doesn't.
