I'm interested in this breed for the dark eggs. I'm a rookie and I live in Hawaii (heavy winter rain, no cold, summers in the mid 80's). Anyone have experience with Barnevelders? I have a coop and 3800 sq ft fenced. Any comments, advice, warnings?

Pretty hardy medium sized bird for the cold weather and they don't seem to suffer at 100 degrees in the summer here. I found they were not the best broodies. Normally ended up incubating eggs for chicks. Buy from a breeder! Hens from other sources rarely throw an egg any darker than an orpington.

Besides the traditional bernevelder you can find them in white, black, and blue periodically.
