I got these two lovely ladies today, marked as Barnyard mix. They came from a Mennonite community where they have livestock sales once a month. I’ve gotten 4 of my other chickens (Easter Eggers) there and know they usually have barred rocks, red production birds, buff Orps, and occasional game bantams. I’ve never seen anything crested, anything in a Columbian coloration, any pure white birds, or any Silkies there.

To me, one looks like a crested Columbian something, and the other looks like a silky Leghorn mix, but as I’m not familiar with these breeds I thought I’d ask here. Both have feathered feet, no extra toes, and the fuzzy white one has bright yellow feet and the other dark gray feet. Any possible guesses are appreciated. I’ve tried to look up crested birds and can’t find that coloration. They’re supposed to be laying age but have had them less than 24 hours so no eggs yet of course.

Look like Silkie mixes to me. It can take hens up to 3 months to settle into their new environment and start laying again. Stress is the single greatest factor that effects laying.
