I had a barred rock pullet go broody and decide to hatch out eggs in the wooded lot next to my property. They hatched the weekend before Thanksgiving while I was away at my cousin's wedding. My roommate found the broody and her babies and brought them inside, so I had a nice surprise when I got home! There are eleven chicks from the clutch.

Here's some pictures:

The father of this one is a Turkey Vulture, I swear...

Assuming mom is barred rock (the three I have were laying at the time, my RIRs hadn't started yet), the father could be any or all of the following:

Ancona
Barred Rock
Rhode Island Red
Dark Cornish
Dominique

They're wild little things, but I haven't handled them much either. I believe two of them are ancona mixes, they were beating each other up so I decided to build a coop outside to give them more room. I had been keeping them in an extra-large dog crate.

Ancona roosters are aggressive, plus they're flighty birds. I now know why they're not a very popular breed. Even if they are pretty with their black and white speckles.

Thank you! My only gripe is that they're all black! lol, I have so many black chickens.... Oh well, at least a few have some barring going on.

Then again, they may change colors once the get older and truly feather out.

That one is concerning me at the moment, it barely has feathers or fluff and breathes pretty heavily. It's acting like a broiler, but feathering and growing slower than one does. It could have been one thrown from one of my Dark Cornish cockerals....
