Barnyard Surprises

Pics
Chicken hatch winding down.
31 eggs at lockdown
-7 egg w/o pip
===
24 eggs
-1 glued to the shell. Messy hatch lasting 24 hours. Didn't realize extent of glue. I coated in olive oil and hoping.

23 chicks at present with 2 still in the incubator from early this morning.

Mostly blacks with yellow trim. One more of Kiki's grey (black & yellow mix).
I'm excited to see the chipmunk one grow out. Roughly 6 not black.

At 23 chicks, worst case 75% cockerels, means I get 5.75 pullets. Chicken math worked better than expected. :lol:

11 quail eggs at lockdown
same 4 with same pips. No progress the last 12 hours. :hmm

I'm trying to minimize incubator openings, but concerned about the remaining eggs.

@Texas Kiki
Lookie lookie!
Yallar quailie!

And another black/yallar drying off. This is #3 of those.

One quail out.

Ran home for lunch.
11 quail eggs
1 hatched
5 more pipped/zipped :th:fl

:wee:woot:wee

Nothing on the last 7 chickens. :hmm 23.5 chickens. Beat 50% hatch. Barely.

Kiki - you haven't gotten any yallars from your quail? Why did I wind up with one in the first hatch from these?

Stay tuned, the genetics lottery isn't over.

My only 3 yellers were from the very first hatch.
I haven't gotten lucky again.

Glued to shell was walking around this evening. Dry but crusty. Coated in olive oil and put in brooder for food and water. This one had a rough, gunky time of it. BUT walking around looking OK. Call it 24 hatched.
24/40 = 60%.

Last 7 eggs are no good. Candled and nothing gonna happen. They need to be planted.

6 Quail walking around. 1more pipped.
