This is my newly hatched English Cuckoo Marans chick.

Going by the head spot, I think it's a cockerel.

Whaddya think?

Please say I'm wrong.

I mean, I’ve gotten cuckoo marans from the tub at TSC. Theyve had spots on the head. They’ve turned out to be hens.

? You’re wrong? ?

Is there something about an English variety that’s different from standard? Some type of sex linked gene I don’t get?

I wouldnt count on a spot on a day old chicks head.

Best of luck!!!

Pullets have small well defined spots, cockerels have larger, paler splodgy spots that can go down their neck.

This is what I've researched anyhow.

I haven't kept this breed before, but they should be autosexing.

I just read on another thread that barred "girls have toupees and boys have mullets".

That's such an excellent description!

I have asked the breeder what they think too.
