Hi all,
I have 6 Barred Rock chicks which are 1 week old. 4 of the 6 have tail feathers coming in. The 2 different ones still have cute fluffy tails, but their wings are different too (fewer feathers at the end). Do you think they are younger or slow growers? Is it possible they are boys instead of girls? Thank you for your input.

Where did you obtain the chicks? Is it possible two different varieties were accidentally placed in the same bin? I've bought what I thought were all barred rock chicks from a Tractor Supply before, and actually ended up with a couple silver laced wyandotte and a cuckoo marans that had been mixed up with the group.

Aside from the difference in feathers, are there any other differences between the chicks? Do they have same color feet, beaks, etc?

I got them from Agway. They appear to have the same color legs and beaks. However their bellys have a lot of yellow and the others are grey with smidge of yellow under the chin.

Okay, yellow chests are common in barred rock chicks.Your greyer boy is definitely male, and after seeing this picture, I'm thinking the darker one may be male as well. Are the chicks in these pictures the same chicks as the ones in your first post?

I think there's some confusion. The first picture of the grey wing is an example of the 4 birds with grey bellys. The second wing picture is an example of the 2 with yellow chests. Those 2 also seem to have fewer wing feathers. I don't know if this is because they are younger (no tail feathers yet, just fluff).

Then I'm almost certain your two "yellow bellies" are male Barred Rocks.
