Hi, We have 4 chicks of which one is a Barred Rock. They are about 6 weeks old and were all supposed to be hens, but the Barred Rock, while larger than the other chicks (Speckled Sussex and Buff Orpington), she is very slow for feather development. We are in fear of her being a rooster as we don't want to lose her, but cannot figure the slow feather development. In addition, one of her wings has feathers that flip up.

UPDATE: Our barred rock is still very slow at feathering, but coming along at 7-8 weeks. However, on her wings, there are bony corners (you cans see that area in the photos above) and where those are, the feathers are trying to come in, but the skin in those places looks raw and oozes. Any ideas what is happening? I cannot find a poultry vet near us online.

Could some of the other birds be nibbling on her? If she’s with others I’d use blue kote boy chickens can really chew up another chicken in no time if they get a wound started.
