Barred rock chick.

Ya Meyers is a well known and though I've not bought from them I think they have a pretty good reputation.
IDK where their eggs come from. Some hatcheries source eggs from breeders and some have their own flocks but many have others raising and breeding them for them.
I haven't had BR for a while but I thought that one looked off. Don't remember them having the faint chipmunk stripes and the genetics don't match for them. Also never remember any with three head spots. Yours also looked pretty dark I was thinking mine had a bit more white on the bottom and up on the chin.
Guess it doesn't matter much at this time.
The speckled RIR surely doesn't look right nor match the genetics for a RIR.
It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh No! Well, kids are kids. My far-from-three-year-old tween child has had a few mishaps with the chicks...so far, they have survived - actually just fine, but have been the inspiration for such conversations as: "this is why you don't hold the chicks over the concrete floor while standing, in case they fall..." and "gently, handle them gently" .... And then today, I nearly squashed the barn cat's tail today, but realized it because I happened to look down, and as a result my legs are not all scratched up (whew!) and cat is fine. accidents happen.
It happens. Couple days ago I had a pullet bolt out of a pen when I opened the door so I quickly spun around and started to go in hot pursuit. Guess she decide the outside world was not for her because she turned to run back in and my first step landed right on top of her. Luckly I was kinda off balance and didn't get my foot planted to well so she was fine.
I have a wee one too and he scares me all the time. We have a pet only rule with the little chicks.
I work with leghorns mixing and matching for new colors/patterns. It usually takes at least two generations and sometimes 100 chicks or so to get just one of what I work for.
I remember I was trying to get a lavender leghorn and yes after a crazy amount of time and numbers I finally hatched one. Of course I was crazy excited but the rest of the family wasn't near as impressed. I had about 25 or so chicks of different varieties in a tote fresh out of the incubator and the wife and kids were checking them out and picking favorites. About that time I heard my son making airplane noises and I looked up and he had the little lavender above his head spinning in a circle playing airplane and showing how chickens fly.
I must of had a pure shock and worried look on my face with the whole ordeal. My wife had quite the laugh and said geez its only a chick you have a hundred of them.
I just said yes dear its only a chick. Never mentioned no its a lavender leghorn chick. Only one I've ever heard of in the states.

Yea it was horrible. The dog kennel we are keeping them now has a lock. I was putting one away that he had let out when it happened and didn’t realize until i heard a big squeak and turned around and he said mommy I’m sorry. I picked it up because it was moving still and i went to put it back in the cage and it just fell on its side and was gone. I was devastated as was my son. It was def a hard lesson learned as i found out he was trying to play leap frog with the chick and tripped :(

You sound like me lol i was awaiting my next batch of eggs to start hatching last night and was sitting by our bator and kinda whistling to get the eggs to rock and turned around and my husband was videoing me and laughing

Ok. I'm sorry I had to laugh! LOL, leap frog with a baby chick - kids sure have funny ideas, and certainly aren't thinking much further ahead than this second. One of my kids umm...*loved* a hamster to death in about 2 days - too much squeezing the poor thing, but child wasn't trying to hurt the hamster, but thought "hugs" (aka squeezes) were ok.

LOL - often the case that the excitement isn't shared to the same level.

 So, did it survive? And, of course your child picked up that chick - it was the one that looked the most *special*

WOW - have you been able to replicate it? Sounds interesting.

I was wondering the same! And i def have to look that breed up! It sounds pretty! I am super excited because i got 4 black copper maran eggs locally and one finally hatched today! Now waiting on the Lakenvelder and Bielefelder eggs i also got! A Lakenvelder has a pip finally and I’m stoked.

I know :/ he is my hyper child
Lol but he’s super innocent and doesn’t realize bad things can happen. I had told him numerous times you can’t get the chicks without permission they can get hurt. :( poor little guys

Yes it did survive.
Attached is a chick pic from that day.
The lavender on left and a blue leghorn project chick on the right.
Also a color I'm working on since they weren't in the states.
Of course out of probably a dozen different colors/patterns from that hatch thats the two my two kids picked to play with.
The two most important and hardest to get.

This is the lavender as a young pullet last fall.
She made it through winter and I still have her she should be laying but hasn't started yet. IDK what's up but I have a few that are holding out this spring.
I still have her parents so hopefully I'll get a few more hatched this year.

I saw some pics of lavenders in the UK so I had to create some. I love lavender birds.
The blues I've seen some pics from Australia. We have blue andalusians here that are quite simular but I'm a leghorn fan so I just need blue leghorns. There's no leghorns here that have the blue gene so I had to cross in a andalusian so I still call them leghorn projects. Hate using anything but 100% leghorn blood but had no choice with those.
Sorry for the sidetrack of your post.
